Belize’s three Lobster festivals – held throughout the month of June in San Pedro, Caye Caulker and Placencia – each have their own special events and festivities.

And given their growing popularity over the years, it’s never too early to start planning for next year.

Here’s what not to miss at San Pedro’s Lobsterfest – the first in the series, and also the longest with an entire week of food, music, bar hops and merriment.

1. The Lobster Crawl and Passport

Be sure to look up the Lobsterfest calendar and hop over to the official “crawl” or bar and restaurant stop of the day (sometimes twice a day). Each stop will earn you a stamp in your Lobsterfest passport – which you can pick up at the crawl events – and each stamp equals one raffle ticket, for a chance to win a Grand Raffle Prize at the end of the week. Think free boat tours, drink baskets, hotel nights and even a fully — sponsored vacation package for two for the following year’s festival. Well worth all the crawling!

2. The Saturday Block Party in Central Park

Everyone on the island looks forward to the grand finale of the week: the Lobsterfest block party.  Indulge in over eight hours of outdoor, beachfront fun well into the wee hours of the night. Live Belizean music – from steel pan to punta rock – is the backdrop in Central Park, where countless restaurant booths and bars compete in serving original cocktails and the best of the crustacean, prepared in a myriad of ways.

3. Water Activities

There’s plenty to keep you busy with all the bar hopping and belly stuffing, but it’s also a good time to take advantage of low season prices and other great offers on water activities and some reef exploration. Snorkeling at nearby Hol Chan Marine Reserve is doable in a half day, if you don’t want to miss the festivities or crawls after lunch. There are also plenty of tour operators with paddle board and kayak rentals, among other fun equipment, to keep you trim amid all the lobster feasting.
